Raw Light is a collection shaped by the wildness and wonder of the sea. Like the kind that lives just beyond my doorstep here on the southeast coast of England. This series captures the push and pull between chaos and calm, much like the changing skies and tides I witness daily. Sometimes the waves lash against the shoreline and the sky turns heavy ad dense. Other times, a burst of sunlight cuts through the clouds, illuminating everything in golden hues. That tension between stillness and storm found its way into every mark on the canvas. These paintings are more raw and more exposed than anything I’ve created before. I left more of the process visible, like loose scribbles, rough textures, marks I would have once covered up. I didn’t want to polish them away. Instead, I let them be. They portray the energy that lives in both the landscape and in me. Raw Light speaks to both the emotional vulnerability in this work and the inspiration behind it. The way light behaves on the sea, sometimes soft and glimmering, other times harsh and fractured. This series is a celebration of nature’s contrasts and the beauty of letting go. Of showing up without smoothing over every edge. Of trusting that not everything needs to be resolved to be complete. Each piece invites you to pause and feel its energy. I hope they bring into your space that same sense of wild peace that I feel here by the sea.
